Man Sentenced to Death After UN Calls for Vietnam to Intensify Drug War

Australian citizen, Pham Trung Dung, has been sentenced to death by a court in Vietnam – a nation with one of the harshest drug laws in the world – for attempting to smuggle heroin out of the country. The sentence came just one day after Yury Fedotov, the executive director of the UN’s Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), urged the Vietnamese government to further tackle “the manufacture, trafficking, and abuse” of certain drugs. The Southeast Asian state, a primary location on the route of the region’s drug traffickers, currently has more than 700 convicts awaiting execution, and has handed down the death penalty to over 30 drug smugglers in the past six months.

Caroline Lucas gives backing to pro medicinal cannabis group

A MEDICAL alliance supporting the use of medicinal cannabis has received the backing of a Brighton MP.

Caroline Lucas, MP for Brighton Pavilion, will be one of the guest speakers at the United Patients Alliance launch night in Brighton.

At the top of the agenda will be a discussion of cannabis as a medicine.

Organiser of the event, Clark French, was diagnosed with MS in 2010.

Mr French revealed that since he has been taking cannabis, his pain, tremors and spasms have been reduced and he no longer has bladder problems.

He said: “It’s been absolutely life changing, I’ve gone from being bed-bound to walking. I’m not cured but my life is considerably better.”

Barcelona: Cannabis clubs cannot be opened for at least a year

Barcelona City Council banned new cannabis clubs for a year. At this time the Consistory drafted a regulation to halt their proliferation.

The First Deputy Mayor, Joaquim Forn, explained that last Wednesday the Government Commission approved emergency procedure for the suspension "to allow time to develop a legislation to establish when you can open these premises and under what conditions". To develop this legislation, the Consistory seeks advice from experts of the medical and pharmacological field.

Forn has also insisted on the fact that these associations "can not become a source of problems of coexistence" and said: "No loophole did not leave for a few can alter coexistence around the club" .
