Hermiston City Council Considers Marijuana Measure and Commercial Naming Rights.

The Hermiston City Council will consider placing a measure on the November ballot that would allow marijuana businesses to operate in the city. The move, which will be decided by the voters, was suggested as a way to bring another revenue stream into the city during meetings discussing budget shortfalls.

Prior to the meeting, the council will hold a work session to discuss a potential commercial naming rights ordinance for the municipality. The work session begins at 6 p.m. and the council could take action on a policy at the regular meeting, which follows at 7 p.m.

Also on the agenda, the council will hold a public hearing in what is termed a special meeting. Up for consideration is a 2024 Community Development Block Grant from Business Oregon. The special meeting will adjourn after the hearing and the regular meeting will begin.

In addition to the cannabis question and the commercial facility naming rights proposal, the council will vote on a resolution for water line replacement at Gladys and Main and consider adopting the 2024 goal-setting report. The meeting is this evening (Monday) in Hermiston City Council Chambers at city hall. It will also be streamed live on the city’s YouTube channel.
